
AREA3 and Toyota Corporation Project Updates
Brendan SmithToyota Motor Corporation Australia Limited (TMCA) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan. It is a leading manufacturer, distributor and exporter of vehicles and engines.
With the announcement in 2014 that Toyota would cease manufacturing and consolidate its national operations to Melbourne, the current manufacturing site will be refurbished and re-purposed. This project aim is to re-purpose and refurbish the existing 51,000sqm Altona “Assembly Building” into a new parts centre warehouse and centralised distribution hub (Facility) to service the wider Victorian area. It includes the refurbishment of the existing 2,500sqm offices and a proposed building extension of 4,300sqm for installation of loading dock and access road to the warehouse.
AREA3 were engaged as the Project Manager and Superintendent since January 2018 and the project has commenced construction in January 2019. It is currently at demolition and services rough-in stages. The project has targeted to achieve Practical Completion and handover to TMCA by October 2019 for commencement of parts storage.
