AREA3 were appointed as the client-side project manager and quantity surveyor to oversee the delivery of an essential upgrade to data centres in Munich and Frankfurt, Germany.
This involved managing the deployment of:
Remote project delivery
This entire project was managed remotely from Melbourne, which created a level of complexity in coordinating between stakeholders in different time zones.
Tight deadline
The specified works needed to be completed urgently as the data centre was nearing its capacity, and there were no viable contingency options available to the client without significant costs, with a lead time of less than two months.
Multiple stakeholders
As is typical with data centre projects, delivery involved coordinating between multiple stakeholders whose interests were not necessarily aligned with the clients.
End to end management
By acting as both PM and QS, we were able to gain insight into the specific needs of the client, and understand exactly what they were spending on the provision of services. Through this process we were able to identify significant cost savings by securing credits for power which had been incorrectly charged previously by the data centre provider.
Detail oriented approach
Delivering projects on-time requires careful attention to detail and consideration of risks which may affect the programme and associated costs. This goes to another level during the remote management of an international project, where even minute details such as response times from various stakeholders need to be considered.
Virtual sign-off
In order to inspect the site, we organised a virtual tour of the works as physical travel was restricted due to border restrictions caused by coronavirus.
